Ever wanted to get up close and personal with real birds of pray, ever wanted to see what thousands of years of evolution can perfect. Well we had the chance this year by going on the Hawkwalk, this is an opportunity to spend some hours with a master of raptors and his free flying companions in the wild. I was amazed about the depth of knowledge of the handler and the sheer breathtaking performance of the birds. In small groups of 4 people (no more) you get to see the birds hunt and experience their natural behavior.

I am completely independent to the people who run the Hawkwalk but I must say it was a very special day. We went on a HawkWalk as a present for my wife, if you are thinking about it don't hesitate just book it, you will not regret it. The session starts in a wooded area with a personal introduction to the birds, every aspect of their life is described in detail and you also have the opportunity to ask questions. Then there is a breathtaking display of hunting, see image below. This really gets the adrenaline rushing as the birds are flying past you within a few meters at top speed.

Next is a chance to handle the birds in the wild, there is nothing like a fully grown Harris hawk flying in a landing on your arm, amazing experience. After the session is over it is concluded with a cream tea in a local castle. What a perfect day. See the gallery above of some of the shots I managed to get on the day. To see more see the official
