20 Nov 2005 Frosty Cobwebs

Very cold frosty morning which made the cobwebs really stand out, converted the black and white and slight blue tone.

01 April 2004 Scotland

First time to Scotland UK, fantastic opportunities for photography, I would recommend it to anyone, very friendly people, great whisky and loch tours, ensure you get a car and just roam, lots to discover.

27 March 2004 Bubbles

This is one of those executive stress busters, where the bubbles slowly rise to the top of the tube. Colors were added later, some interesting reflections in the bubbles.

07 February 2004 High Key Tulips

First time I've tried the high key technique, I will be using this technique again, really pleased with the results. The trick seems to be to overexpose by about 1/3 to 1/2 of a stop and a burst of soft flash.

01 February 2004 Amaryllis

Just made a new softbox for my flash, tried this out on a house plant with some nice results.

18 January 2004 Raw Sunday

Great morning, really cold, really clear and great sky's. This is a good example of the subtle tones that can be achieved when using raw mode with your camera.

10 January 2004 Milk Drops

The famous milk drop experiments recreated with no special high speed flash techniques just trial an error.

30 November 2003 Concorde

This was the last flight of concorde in Filton UK (where I work) this was a historic moment, I am glad I got some shots. A spitfire was also flying around so a few shots of that too.

05 November 2003 Westonbirt

This My latest shots of westonbirt arbotetum, this was great this year for photos, lots of sun, no wind, long saturated exposures.

19 June 2003 Butterflys

You can tell I am on holiday at the moment, have taken over 700 pictures in 5 days, this was the butterfly farm in Stratford Upon Avon great opportunity to practice the macro photography. I use a standard 35-80 mm zoom with a Jessops +4 close up filter, for larger than 1:1 life size I use a x2 teleconverter, all with flash positioned just infront of the lens.

18 June 2003 Stained Glass

The Parish Church of St John the Baptist Glastonbury, this is a small old church in the center of glastonbury. The keepers are very friendly and the church has great character, the best part of photographers is the stained glass. The problem with large cathedrals is the windows are so high it is difficult to get detail without too much distortion, here the glass is near therefore only minor tweaks on photoshop are needed to correct the distortion's. I was surprised out how well the Canon 10D handled the exposure it was spot on in most cases.

18 June 2003 Cheddar Caves

Cheddar caves in the UK is a great places for photos, usually very difficult because when you use a flash it destroys the great color's and lightning. You can't usually use tripods as there are many visitors so what do you do ? I set the Canon 10D on 1600 ISO and shot hand held, and got some great shots.

16 June 2003 Forde Abbey

In Forde Abbey a classical cistercian monk abbey founded over 800 years ago, the gardens were laid out in the 1700's. This is a great place for relaxation and stunning grounds.

16 June 2003 Cricket St Thomas

Cricket St Thomas near Chard is a good wildlife park, large open paddocks great for photos, not quite as good a cotswold wildlife park for variety.

15 June 2003 In the Garden

In the Garden flowers and bugs, every time I get the camera out all the insects disappear weird ?

07 June 2003 Paris Again

This Had another week in Paris for a course, stayed in a great 14th century chateau took to 10D this time hope you like it.

28 May 2003 Workflow

This is a section to share my workflow when manageing digital images, this includes, prints, web gallery's storage and archive.

26 May 2003 Royal Botanical Kew Gardens

Took the time out today to visit the Royal Botanical Gardens at Kew its a great day out, the most unexpected pictures I took were of the water lilies, this is a new subject for me but I loved them check them out for yourself click on the yellow text above. I traveled light for this trip, only the Canon 10D and a 28-105 zoom, its was enough for the majority of shots.

25 May 2003 Hungry Robin

Its raining again, no chance to get out, we have a pair of robins in the garden nesting is the oak tree. They are busy every minute feeding the chicks, grabbed some quick shots they wont win any competitions but are a interesting record. It was taken with the Canon 10D 300mm lens with x2 converter through patio doors. This explains the last of sharpness.

17 May 2003 Westonbirt Bluebells

Last change this year to take pictures of bluebells so I went to Westonbirt Arboretum, they have a fabulous wild display. This was a terrible day, dark sky's, showers, very wet, but this is just what you need for bluebells, this low diffused light really saturates the color's. See for yourself.

17 May 2003 Frome Valley

These were taken a few weeks ago only just had time to put them on the web site. Frome Valley is in the local area its a walkway full of wildlife and great river side photography, these picture do not do it justice but gives you an idea of what its like.

15 May 2003 Full Moon

Just saw the moon last night a brilliant full moon, great oppertunity with a clear sky. Used the Canon 10D with a 300mm lens and a x2 converter. Focus is critical and I metered off of the moon only. Post processing involved overlaying an embossed verions of the image to highlight the texture of the surface, this is artificial but gives a good impression.

03 May 2003 Its all in the Curves

The weather has been terrible lately in the UK, so instead of still like shots indoor I though I would give you a quick book review. This is for people using photoshop and want to move on from using levels.

26 April 2003 Leaf Magic

I wanted to take some pictures today, I didn't want to travel far, so fist decided to take pictures of the spring flowers in the garden, this was uneventful, found some spiders but they were too small, so I decided to take the flash off the camera on a cord and start trying to shoot the flash through the leaves, I was amazed at the result I will definitely try this technique again. See what you think.

23 April 2003 Wasp Nest

Its been a busy day, heard a buzzing from our small shed, it tuned out to be a wasp building its nest. This was an opportunity not to be missed. I set up the Canon 10D with a 300mm lens and 2x converter, manual flash and managed to get these shots.

These pictures shows large images of insects you have been WARNED.

23 April 2003 Rape Seed Field

This is the time of year for Rape Seed fields in full bloom, I have never taken a satisfactory shot before but now I am happy, using the 10D in Raw mode also setting the color space to RGB color has really brought out the best in these pictures. The shots were early in the morning so the sky was poor saturation, so I have changed this with the hue and saturation commands.

18 April 2003 Paris Chateau

Had to work in a Chateau in Paris (I know life is hard) so I took the opportunity to also take some pictures, this locations lends itself to black and white grainy pictures so did some post processing.

05 April 2003 Costwold Wildlife

Visit to the Cotswold Wildlife Park, one of my favorite places for wildlife, most of the animals can be viewed with no cages or glass ideal for photography.

These images were taken with my new Canon 10D, most were with a 75-300mm Canon zoom, the one image of the manor house was with the new Sigma 15-30mm Sigma zoom. I am very impressed with this lens, vary sharp. Most of the shots were are ISO400 as all were handheld I needed the high shutter speeds.

04 April 2003 Airbus A340-600

I work at AIRBUS recently the new A340-600 aircraft flew in for the engineers that worked on it, here is a few shots of the day. All taken with the Canon 10D using 75-300mm & 35-80mm Canon USM lens. The in flight shot was when the aircraft was on a fly by, I used the AI servo mode to keep in focus, and the continuous shooting to get the shot I needed.

02 March 2003 Symonds Yat

The was a visit to Symonds Yat in Wales UK, its a great area for walks and pictures. All taken with Canon Powershot S40.
